Website Domain Registration Information Print

In order for a website to be viewable on the world wide web, a website domain name must be registered with the universal domain registrar and have its domain name servers (DNS addresses) pointed at the hosting company's server.  When you register a domain, you first need to check whether the domain is available using the domain checker tool.  If a domain is available then you can immediately register it and afterward view the domain on your domain list.  In order for you to begin publishing a website on the newly registered domain, you must add the domain to your hosting account within the control panel.  The path you specify when adding the domain to your hosting account is the folder where web pages will need to be published for them to become publically viewable.

A domain renewal is the action of extending the registration of a domain on your account with a purchase of between one to nine years.  Domain renewals must be completed prior to the domain expiration date in order to retain ownership.  By default, automatic renewal is enabled for domains purchased through FarmerHost.com.

A domain transfer is the process of transferring the management of a domain from one registrar to another.  Transferring a domain requires a lengthy verification process to insure the validity of the transfer request.  The following steps may be followed in transferring a domain to Farmer Host's registrar.

1) Remove domain locking and privacy protection from the domain being transferred.

2) Access the EPP code associated with the domain.

3) Initiate the domain transfer process by completing the required information and submitting payment. Note that domains can only be transferred for a one-year registration extension.

4) Validate your ownership and acceptance of the transfer by clicking the link within the verification email you should receive.  If no email is received, insure transfer-approval.org is white listed and that you are using a reliable email provider, like Gmail. Following the receipt and approval of the previous registrar's verification request, you will receive a final confirmation before the change takes place.

5) Check that the transferred domain appears in your list of domains and can be added to your hosting account.

Note that a domain transfer will be canceled and refunded if the necessary email verification is not received.  Be ware of using AOL and Yahoo as these companies are prone for blocking such mail.
