Welcome to the Farmer Host 2020 Newsletter. FarmerHost has exciting developments to report on from the past year and a few announcements to highlight.
Firstly, in light of the coronavirus virus, please stay safe and calm. I choose to take this unprecedented circumstance as an opportunity, both personally and for business. While staying informed is important, don't stay glued to the TV or social media. Instead, read a book, call friends and family, and go outside and enjoy the beginning of spring!
My thoughts are with those who are impacted by COVID-19. I wish speedy recovery to all those who are ill, and to those whose loved ones are battling this virus. We are excited to announce that basic SSL is now included for free with all hosting plans. Securing your website is important for showing visitors your website is safe, protecting private information and now also ranking your website in search engines.
In order to make sure visitors go to the secure (https) version of your website, you will need to force SSL redirection. Refer to our Knowledge base articles for more information and Instructions. Specifically, How to Secure your website with SSL is a good starting point. If you have a Premium Hosting and Support or Content Management agreement, you have nothing to worry about because we handle all this for you.
There are three types of paid SSL Certificates you may choose from if your website needs extra security: Organizationally Validated (OV) SSL Certificates, Domain Validated (DV) SSL Certificates, and Extended Validation SSL Certificates. Farmer Host supports the installation of any upgraded SSL certificate. Additionally, you no longer need a dedicated IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Email on your mobile device? Automatic configuration scripts are available for many platforms and clients. Log into web mail and click on the link for your platform to set up access on your email client.
Accessible Photo Gallery
This year one of our clients asked us for a photo gallery that was simple to update and blind-friendly. There are a ton of photo gallery scripts, WordPress modules and applications for making nice looking pages to show photographs; yet, none of them were simple and accessible enough. So we decided to develop one from scratch. Introducing Accessible Photo Gallery 1.0! You can see the results at https://www.topgunntet.com on each of the gallery pages. On January 3, 2020, ICANN announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. to operate the top-level domain .COM. While Verisign is authorized to increase prices for .COM over the up-coming years, FarmerHost is combating the increases.
